Chronic Lyme disease (LD) is one of the fastest growing vector borne diseases worldwide, however, like CFIDS and Gulf War Syndrome, it has been largely ignored by the medical community due to limited funds for research. Currently, even its existence is hotly debated within the community with two medical organizations holding almost diametrically opposing viewpoints. Yet, if you suffer from chronic LD, its devastating effects on your health and overall life are undeniable.

This portion of our website is devoted to providing Lyme disease patients with numerous resources to improve your treatment outcome with Dr. Patel. You will find important information on dietary and lifestyle changes that need to be implemented while you are undergoing treatment, articles to update you on the latest research on LD, alternative therapies for LD and how they can best be incorporated into your treatment program. There are also links to important information on other websites.

Due to time limitations, there is only so much information that can be covered during office visits. We encourage you to study this part of the website before you begin your treatment for Lyme Disease with Dr. Patel. Having worked with many chronic Lyme disease patients over the years it has become obvious that individuals have or develop an immunocompromised state before they start developing symptoms of LD. Unless all of the factors causing that immunocompromise are adequately treated, individuals do not recover from LD (or they relapse quickly once treatment is stopped). These factors include impairment in methylation and other detoxification pathways, increased heavy metal burden, chronic infections (esp. mycoplasma), and lifestyle/personality traits/habits that lead one to take on too many responsibilities in their life, among others. Dr. Patel has seen a consistent correlation between individuals who address these issues and recover from LD and those that do not.
